Dr. Lachman: You're not alone
and there is a solution.
I don’t know
anyone who looks forward to visiting a dentist.
Do you?
Oral sedation or sleep dentistry may be the right solution for you. It will allow you to relax and have your dental work completed quickly, with limited stress and anxiety.
How does Sedation Dentistry work?
You’re not alone - millions of people like you are afraid of going to the dentist. With oral sedation, all the fear will disappear. You take a small pill an hour before your appointment, which relaxes you so dental treatment feel like minutes, instead of hours.
You may not even remember the treatment, time flies as you relax. You are completely safe during the procedure because you’re constantly monitored with medical equipment.
Dr. Lachman and/or one of his experienced staff members will be with you throughout the procedure.
Experience dentistry safely and easily without the stress!
How does oral sedation work?
Prior to your treatment
No food or drinks except for water for 12 hours before your appointment.
A mild sedative to help you relax will be given to you in tablet form just before your treatment begins.
Please arrange for someone to drop you off and pick you up as you will not be able to drive after the procedure.
The day of your appointment: treatment
We won’t begin your treatment until you are relaxed. If you need it, we will offer another tablet. Someone will be with you at all times and your pulse and blood pressure are monitored constantly.
After your treatment appointment:
You will need a ride from the office.
You will have to take the rest of the day off work.
You will likely have little or no memory of your treatment.
Use caution and ask for assistance when needed, e.g. with stairs, because the sedation may affect your balance temporarily.
How am I monitored?
Dr. Lachman and/or an experienced staff member will be with you constantly to monitor your vital signs and your comfort level.
How long does Oral Sedation last?
From two to six hours depending upon the procedure you are undergoing. A drink of juice or soft food is all it takes to get you back to normal, once you wake up.
Can I come to my appointment by myself?
No. Because the sedative can take up to 24 hours to completely leave your system, someone will need to stay with you following your appointment.
Is it safe?
Absolutely! Thousands of people have been treated without any problems. Should any concerns arise, there’s always a reversal agent available in the treatment room.
Only a dentist can determine which procedure - or combination of procedures - is necessary to give you a new, beautiful smile.
Schedule an initial consultation. A wonderful smile can be yours soon!
